MySpace Thoughts
Well MySpace.com just got hacked again MySpace gets Hacked. I am not sure if you are aware of this community of users but it's basically a site where you setup a profile and post your pictures so people you didn't talk to in High School and want to talk to you now can come find you.
I have a myspace profile I haven't update it since I created it back in early 2002. I have put a few clever things on there like I have a FeedRoll saying come check out my real blog which is updated in real time. But the way I view myspace is pretty much a giant cluster of morons making these horrible profile pages that crash most web browsers on the Mac. I have used IE, Mozilla Firefox, Mozilla Camino, Safari these pages will crash the only thing that can stand up to the horrible HTML/CSS Cluster Fuck of MySpace is Opera.
People are so hooked on Myspace they fail to realize there are other solutions out there. The one that has the most interest for me is OrkUt which is powered by the none other Google. Which means it doesn't suck and it has lots of cool features and it works with your gMail account and Google Talk.
Now what MySpace basically does is you get a list of friends. Which is always a popularity contest people you don't even know want to be your friend. I currently have 52 friends I think I have never met personally like 5 people on my list. I think one is a Club in Seattle so that might be even less. I could delete some of them but that's to much work because MySpace is so damn slow. They allow you to customize your pages using CSS and HTML and most of the time people have no idea what they are doing so they piece together a giant barrage of HTML hell.
Lets look at a few examples.
Salena - Preston's Ex Well we look at this site and we have Red Text on a White Marilyn Monroe Background with a song by Her. I just feel like my laptop is raping my eyes and banging my ears for good measure. Crapness Rating : 6
Brittany - Some Chick Local Well we go to this page and see she is a Britney Spears Addict. With Stars Blinking in the Background I disabled Music so I can't test that and frankily wouldn't doubt it. I got a few errors on loading because of Windows Media Player. Now I thought this was just a place for us young people to hang out but even her mom got in on this comments and said a Hello. I am thinking she might be insecure about herself and possible attention whore to build herself up this much on the internet. Crapness Rating: 9
Josh - High School Friend Since 1st Grade Well we look at this site and the colors are just here we are lets rape your face again. We Have Black, Red, Some Tealish Color, Some Purple Color. We have a giant Black Gap in the middle. We got lucky with No Video and it's just put together sloppy as Hell. Crapness Rating: 7
Well lets putmyself on the chopping Block.
Tristan Pipo Myself I have all the defaults and a little feedroll saying go to my Real Blog I don't update this Blog. I use the default scheme to hell with no mods. Crapness Rating: 3
That is just a small example but it seems every page is like this. I hate the ones that have nothing but glitter and are just a giant cluster fuck of like system crash.
I did all my testing on OS X Tiger 10.4.2 on my 1.5Ghz G4 Powerbook 2GB of RAM on my ATI Radeon 9700 with 128MB of Video Ram. I used Safari 2.0.1 and Opera Version 8.5 Build 2173
I am sure it's a great community but it's more of annoynace on the internet. It violates every rule for coding HTML that I have ever learned back when I was in High School and used Web Pages that Suck - Learn Good Design By Looking at Bad Design but people still think blinking green text on a fire background is just plain cool. Back when the web was run by the few people that knew how to make a website now it is out upon the masses. I hope these people never become real web designers trying to sell themselves to comapanies to make websites just like the MySpace pages.
Another Problem I have is the lack of RSS on mySpace they have an RSS feed for the Blogs on there but you have to actually look for it. It's not automatically done. Like this Blog I have given you the luxury of either ATOM or RSS using Feedburner. Sadly Blogger does not allow you to change your Header Tags by Default with the <$BlogMetaData$> area of your Template. Because that contains all your header information which is where you can change where your default RSS Feed be it RSS or ATOM you view on default.
Anyways Just wanted to vent again on why MySpace is by far the crappiest community on the net. Next comes Xanga. I can't say I have found anything really bad on Blogger other then the Spam Bots which have caused making commenting a Bitch for the rest of us because we have to enable a graphic test where you type in the text of a graphic. But makes life easier for me in the end.
