Nerds of 01!

Well here is a way to show how "Hardcore" Ollie is. http://web.archive.org/web/20020802073606/www.battle.net/ladder/d2exp-ladderjunesept2001.shtml

Back in the old school days of 01 we played Diablo II all the time. When the expansion came out Ollie wanted to be the first level 99 hardcore. So what did he do he played 22hrs a day to get level 99. We were in the _Valgore Clan called EliteDruin it was pretty intense lol. I remember using a Battle.Net Chat Bot to govern our channel that was hardcore. ;-) But anyways Just a trip down memory lane for us. So we salute you Miss Valgore and Ollie for being the "Best in the World" at Diablo II ;-)

Some Tunes!

Well on my quest to grow my collection of music daily I have turned to downloading TV show theme songs. On my quest for theme songs I found an old show I loved called the Gummy Bears. I remember always getting a cape from a towel and trying to spin around to the Cartoon. Ahh being young and having an imagination. But I found a few episodes of the show on BitTorrent and I realized Kids shows back in my day kicked ass compared to this new Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh Crap you see on TV now. It used to be Baseball cards. Now it's some cartoon Cards. WTH happened to America's Kids. They watch stupid shows on TV. Fraggle Rock, Sesame Street, Gummy Bears, The Jetsons they were all the pimp shows when I was growing up. Oh well on with the theme song collecting.

I miss Sleep

Some reason I haven't been sleeping to well. It's this odd feeling that I am always forgetting something or some topic has been forgotten or just something is always on my mind. I think I am just missing that feeling of satisfaction. I decided to take the ferry home instead of driving around to save that 1.5hrs of time but costs $10. Sitting here with my feet up on my laptop I can't really figure it out. Looking around I see people sleeping and I so envy them.

Another thing I don't understand is honesty. Why do people have such a hard time being honest. I hate this metaphors of what people are really feeling. Just be open if you don't want to talk to me then just say so. I would gain so much more respect for a person who is honest then just not telling me what is up. But I will never understand that about people. But then again sleep is something I miss and I just feel like I need a break. I am either at Work or School or Studying or Trying to sleep. But I can't really seem to sleep so I sit up all night just tossing worried about stuff. I need to relax just get away and do nothing.

Sad News Day

Minnesota School Shooting This one is believed to be bigger then the one in Columbine High School. Again with a kid who was teased for wearing black. It's really shitty that stuff like this has to happen. He will probably place Blame on Video Games or the Media. It could never be his parents or his legal guardians fault. People have to find another scapegoat.

I was in the lab before class reading DrudgeReport and saw this I didn't believe it at first look but reading the article linked above it's just a shame. 14 people gone. Anyways sucks seeing bad news. But what news do I ever see that is good news? Let me find some good news.

Apple Releases new Security Patch for OS X 10.3 Panther Release Notes
Bill Nye the Science Guy makes a return Bill Nye
Here is something to read How Computers are Making Kids Dumb

Well there is some news. I will have a more personal post when I get home from class tonight. What I really want to say doesn't really fit this topic.

Google Library Up and Running!

Well this isn't really anything personal but google has a new feature. Google has been going around to the big libraries. So far they have got Harvard's Library in a digital format which is the second biggest library in the world the first is the library of congress but you can now search for a book and get the complete text in a digital format. For example to do this search you have to type in book or and you will get the complete text for the book. Tom Sawyer Pretty cool little feature when you are to lazy to go to the library. ;-)

Also when you select a book you can search within that book. Very Cool Feature. Another way Google is taking over the world. They own Blogger.com, Hello, Picasa, Search, gMail, Maps, Image Search. All very cool stuff. The list goes on. =)

Power Outage

Damn Power Outage Stopped me from viewing the Ring. I find it bizarre that someone commented on an article I posted in November about the Incredibles. Well Props to that person for reading the archives. I didn't think anyone did unless I sent them a link to it.

Ring pt Duex

Well tomorrow night I will be going to go see the Ring Two at 10pm at none other then the Poulsbo Theater. I have not seen the Ring One so I picked up the movie and will be watching it tonight. I will edit this blog with a review afterwards but we shall see I have heard it's scary as hell others are like that movie is lame.

Ring Two Trailer For those who would like to check out the trailer for the Ring 2. But anyways off to watch the Ring. Ugh Phone will be ringing now just to scare the crap out of me.

Update of Most Played Song

I kinda cheated this one to the top but who cares! It's from Jack Johnson his new Album never really payed him much attention until I saw this music video which is pretty awesome it's like Coldplay's video where everything was going backwards but the mouth was in sync going normally. I found out his other #1 Downloaded song in the iTunes Music Store is called Flake which seems to be the biggest problem this day in age with girls. Is that most that I like to hang out with turn out to be flakes with no real explanation as to why they do what they do. No logic behind it but how often can logic be applied. Which is probably one problem I have is that I have to find logic in everything. Well this post took a drastic turn from being about a new favorite song to flakes. Maybe cause I am Sitting, Waiting and Wishing. =)

Last Update was Sunday!

Well folks sorry for the lack of updates been a busy week 1st week of the new quarter so I have been driving a lot and just have not had the time to get on this blog. But I thought I would share with you an e-mail from my archive that I have never shared before. This inquiry came up last december when Me, and Kacey ventured out with some friends to go see the Polar Express movie in 3D IMAX at the Seattle Pacific Science Center. I had never been to the new Boeing IMAX theater since it was opened for the release of Fantasia 2000 in 2000. When I got home I was reading this article about how the Producer of Star Wars Rick McCallum was saying that Home Theater was destroying the movie business.

So on this note I thought well lets see there is really no joy in going to the movies you have 30 mins of commercials before the movie and then you have 20 mins of previews before the movie and you can watch all of those at home. So I thought how much better is a movie theater screen over an IMAX Screen so I sent of this e-mail to IMAX customer Service.

Hello my name is Tristan Pipo and I am just a general huge fan of movies and the technology behind the film. I was doing some research of the standard 35mm film that we see in movie theaters and did a little research and I heard that they have approx 4000 lines of resolution on a typical movie. I was wondering what the number of lines that would be approx. in a typical frame of IMAX film.

I can understand that is a lot of down conversion between the 4000 lines of a standard film to DVD which is 480p on a high end system. I was just wondering if you could pass that data along to me because I just like knowing those kind of details.

Thanks. Love the Imax technology.

A little over a week later I got my response.

Dear Tristan,

Thank you so much for your interest in IMAX. Hopefully the following will answer your question.

The smallest resolve power of neg film is about 6 microns. As a result, the limiting resolution on a 35mm negative frame is around 3700x2700 pixels. This means a maximum of 2000 lines of vertical resolution for an image with a 1.85 aspect ratio and even less for a 2.35:1 aspect ratio (1570 lines).

The resolution on a 35mm release print is much lower due to MTF generation loss in the film process. A recent paper from SMPTE journal reported that the real resolution that audience can discern in a high-quality 35mm cinema is about 1600 horizontal pixels, which translates to about 850 lines for 1:85 and less than 700 lines for 2.35. Most 35mm cinemas fair even worse than those numbers.

Similarly, an IMAX 15/70 frame has a limiting resolution of close to 12,000 horizontal pixels. For an aspect ratio of 1.36:1, there are about 8700 lines of vertical resolution on each 15/70 negative frame. Because the release print for a typical IMAX documentary is printed directly from the negative, the geneartion MTF loss will be reduced. It is estimated that audience can discern no less than 4500 lines of vertical resolution from a good IMAX release print. So as you can see there exists quite a difference between the image quality of an IMAX image vs that of a 35mm image.

Best Regards,

There you have it fellow bloggers some reason I can't ever seem to read enough or do enough with this technology they use for movies I am always asking questions like this my friends think I am a total dork because of this but hey I can always say I know more then them about this kinda stuff. What knowledge do they have? I know my friends are great at being friends but watching them not have jobs or not going to school is depressing.

My current goal is to see what it takes to get my CCNA been seeing where the training is offered because from what I view of the industry a MCSE isn't really worth my time. But I could be wrong since from all the people with a CCNA that I have talked always seem to make more money then the MCSE and the CCNA is on track to get a CCNP and then the uber mega CCIE but we will see. Current Goal though is to take classes to get my CCNA and go get my CCNA.

Weekend Of Skype Action!

Word up peopel this is Tristan coming to you from blog or maybe if you use the RSS feed from that to. Anyways been trying Skype out all weekend seeing what that brings me in the ways of meeting new people and I have had people from Poland, Turkey, Germany and the USA contact me. First was a lovely sounding voice from Poland who wanted to pratice normal conversation with someone because she wanted to learn english. Something that I had never done before which was a pretty cool experience I must say. Then met some other people one that I have really enjoyed talking to. Just because most people wouldn't ask these questions and expect these answers and say the exact same things.

1. Blue
2. Kerry
3. Dogs or Penguins

It was just really amazing to have that in common with someone but yeah it was good weekend of Skype. Got to learn some Polish and Turkish and learned some stuff about the world we live in and how people from different countries have a lot in common with us from US.

Had a good weekend it was my Grandpa's Birthday today but we went on Saturday had some steak and cake and had conversations and then on Saturday went to a Bar called the Dog and Moose or was it the Cow and Horse... Or Horse and Cow? I have no idea some bar with way to much smoke. Chicks with Tat's. Navy Guys.. Watered Down Drinks. But was there with friends and I think I got lung cancer from the whole idea I had a Fat Tire and a Vodka/Tequila Sunrise was tasty.

Today was Ollies mom's birthday also and I spent the day with Ollie trying to get these tapes of his Dad and Mom in Bali and Thailand they made over 20 years ago cleaned up and into a digital format using Reason, Logic, Sound Forge, Acid, and Final Cut Pro to get them cleaned up with much trial and error we got about half an hour done. About 5 more hours to complete =).

Anyways there is a weekend update before the weekend is over. Tonight Me, Jason, Ollie, David and The Hans are going to go see Hostage. Looks to be okay not some move I am dying to see like Sin City or Hitch Hikers Guide. (I should really link those to trailers or IMDB.com but I am to lazy at this point) Anyways lets hear about your weekends. Post a comment. You know you want to. It will make your day to post a comment on my Blog.

Tristan WTF Weekend Update Never Happened

Well I got a tad distracted with my other affairs so just haven't had time to get it done. ;-)

Okay well what's new I was watching some TV and saw Muppets and I thought I used to have the MP3's from the Muppet Treasure Island Soundtrack so I went on a search to find them. And I found them and I forgot how much I enjoyed this movie as a child. I went looking for the DVD and found out it went out of print and the copies that were printed were only the Full Frame 1.33:1 Ratio when the film was filmed in 1.85:1 Anamorphic Widescreen. So that ended that search quickly so I sent a quick e-mail to TouchStone and Disney with a rant of why they were idiots and I will see what kind of response I get if I ever get one.

But anyways went to LanWerX with Ollie tonight and just had a chat with the people there it's kinda bizarre to sit in a room and you start talking about the layers of the OSI Model and people know what you are talking about. Cause I was talking about this old link where someone replaced the Physical Layer with Congo Drums and had a total bandwith with that of 0.003Kbps and got an A for the class for making his own media for the Physical Layer.

Oh well weekend update is 100x cooler then this ;-)

Little Template Changes

I decided to get a little creative with PHP to save on some download time on the server and I took the entire Top 10 iTunes Song, Links, Blogs and took that and made it a dynamic part of the page and put it into a sql database so I can just edit that without having to change the entire template on the blog so part of the blog is now in PHP so that bring the total part of this page into PHP, mySQL, HTML, CSS, Javascript, XML and RSS all in use on the site =).

Anyways hope it works for everyone as long as you have IE 5.0+, Safari 1.2+, Firefox 0.7+, Netscape 6.0+, Opera (Any Version). Well it should work for all of them since it's done on my server end and nothing really to do with the end users. So I hope it works for everyone. =)

Anyways there is a play coming up Imrov Comedy Really March 12th if you would like to join me let me know I will save you a seat. Hope all is well. Sorry for the nerdness of this post but that's just how I am at times ;).

I got a little confused yesterday went over to a guys house and he has a Philips Rear Projection TV. He has a DirecTV HD Tuner, Samsung DVD Player the one that can upconvert the 480p of DVD to 1080i. He has them all hooked up through a Composite Video Switcher! This TV he had had 2 DVI Ports and a HDMI Port. He has this decent HDTV and all of the potential is wasted from a possible viewing of 1080i but he has it hooked up via composite for a max of 320i of resolution. I hate not working at Best Buy not being able to help the idiots who work there stop people from getting a great TV and not being able to hook it up properly but I don't blame them for not wanting to pay $100 for a 6' HDMI to DVI Monster Cable. But still you have a good TV why not use it to it's potential?

Anyways Rant Out.

I started to think most people have no idea what I am talking about so let me clarify here is a picture for me to work with.

Okay the White Plug in the Middle is called DVI it allows for an uncompressed video signal of up to 1080i which means 1080 lines of interlaced resolution which means that every time an image is drawn on the screen it redraws every other line each time it redraws the image which with the back of this Samsung DLP I am using has a refresh rate of approx 75hz so every frame which American TV is 24Framses Per Second the screen is redrawn 75 times per second so 24x75,000 is how many times the screen is updated per second at 1080 lines of resolution. But it only redraws every other line so it's doing about half the work each pass.

Standard HDTV resolutions are 480p/720p/1080i the newer LCoS Can do 1080p over HDMI but no source that I have found can output 1080p.

So he had his TV hooked up via Composite which are the Yellow Plugs which create a huge loss of quality. Because Color, B&W, Horizontal and Vertical are all sent down one cable which can cause for loss of quality when all that is fed down a low bandwith cable. There is SVIDEO which is the Plug which seperates Color, B&W, and Horizontal and Veritcal which will give you about a 60% improvement of quality because each bit of signal is on it's own cable basically. The Red, Green and Blue Plugs are Component which seperates Red, Blue, and Green the three basic colors of TV and Horizontal are transmitted over the Blue and Vertical on the Green for the standard HDTV use this and it can do HDTV in all resolutions except for 1080p. DVI is all Digital and no DaC is needed (Digital to Analog Conversion) which is required over all other types. HDMI is the latest and greatest which can do 1080p and Full Quality 8.1 Digital Surround Sound over one Cable but it's a little ahead of it's time which is awesome.

And this guy had all these inputs and used Composite the worst kind ever! He had a super bowl party with this. Ugh I would have cried with the horrible views of this TV. But I know way to much about this kinda thing and stuff like that bothers me if someone has an HDTV I always notice these kind of things such a bad habit I know but still you spend all that money on a TV and your going to show it off to me. Show it off properly hooked up Please. Then I will be jealous not laughing on the inside at you.

March Blog

Well first day of March and it's off to a fairly good start. My hands are slowly being fixed with this new hand lotion I bought the other day when I was at the mall. Bath and Body Works Hand Lotion Felt really odd in this store but Kacey was with me so didn't feel so weird and this stuff is amazing after a few days I notice like an 80% fix. I had really bad dry skin for some reason on my left hand index and middle finger and it's pretty much gone now after not even a week of doing it twice a day. Well worth $18 the $4 bottle of Jergens Ultra Moisture didn't do crap for my hands just made them all slippery and I gave up on it.

You get what you pay for. Welcome to March this will be my first year being able to sample the horribless of Green Beer in all it's horrible glory. Anyways off to do more of nothing I guess lol.
