Webcam Day From What I am Told

Well watching RB this morning I found out it was Webcam Day. So I thought I would post the webcam that I enjoy frequently.

Seattle Building Webcam

For example this morning I was watching a spider make it's web while some dudes build a building. It was great on so many levels I can't even begin to tell you.

What is Podcasting

Well I have been a fan of the Ask a Ninja podcast for a while now. I remember seeing this show a long while ago. I thought I would let a master of the ninja art explain what a podcast is.

Begin Again

Well development has been moving along smoothly with the new site. Though I have been getting some feedback on the layout. Some have been saying that it is "A bit professional" or "It's confusing" I keep forgetting to think like the average internet user and remember that most people have no clue how a CMS works or PHP or mySQL or issues with SENDMAIL or PHP MAIL() function. Most don't even want to load up their e-mail software (Mail, Thunderbird, Outlook, Entourage) to send e-mail to people. So I have been trying to that approach to the design making all that on the site in front of the user.

The problem I have with Blogger is that it's a one page, one layout system. The simplicity of it is wonderful. But I have been working on a new layout that matches the Blogger layout but with a little more effort. So I was hoping for an early April launch but sadly it's not looking that great.

As I wait for the new laptop HDD to get back to podcasting I have been forgetting to talk about stuff. I have some thoughts on some movies that I recently got to see. V for Vendetta and Inside Man. 16 Blocks etc.

So Pardon the mess as I get things done and working on new ideas. So until things get done I have the vacation I took I want to talk about. So many things I want to say and do are all limited by lack of laptop. It is a love hate relationships I loved my laptop and all that it gave me but I really didn't like the person I was that I had to rely on it all the time.

So new layout for the Test Site is coming. I hope it will be smooth. So this is the main blog for now.

Happy Surfing.

P.S. Junniper what is being middle named? Not sure on the whole hip talk of the ebonics. I just figured out beau meant. Did people get lazy and not able to say boy-friend. Anyways peace out.

The Move

Post on New Site Test

Well I have imported everything as of the last blog post to the new blog. Took a good 2hrs to move everything over to the new site. All the comments, blog posts are all still available. Most of the mobile cell phone pictures did not make it though.

We have 10 registered users on the new site so far. I was told the setup e-mails were not getting out so I have been manually resetting passwords and e-mailing the users. I will keep this blog up and running at least for a little while past the deadline and then I will setup a redirect to the new site which should be a bit easier for people to remember.

http://tristanpipo.com

If you subscribe to the feedburner feed that will be updated and you will not notice a difference. If you subscribe to the ATOM feed of this site well um it will not be updated as regular.

I got an e-mail asking about the links on the new page. Well I decided to be fair that no blog I link to will get any priority of order. So everytime you refresh the page the links will appear in a random order. Though perhaps if a blogger would like to submit a donation I can give them priority in the list ;-).

I got an e-mail from someone that shall remain nameless at this time. "Dude you said a while ago you were going to get Junniper on for a phone call" Well umm I think in the past months I have maybe called her 5 or 6 times resulting in voicemails everytime. Or maybe you meant the SceneIt Challenge. The brain is ready and willing maybe I should just venture down to Portland ring her and say "I will bring you down to chinatown" and be like What MOVIE! People like to be kept on their toes. Also come to think of it haven't got munch on the e-mail front from people recently. Comments have been down. Odd...

TristanPipo.com Registration Page

When you sign up I will manually e-mail you your reset password to change it at your leisure.

There are still a few more things I have to test before I launch. So things are making steady progress. Laptop is still dead till I get a new hard drive.

Also I got a e-mail saying that the magazine I was in is finally on the shelves. You can pick one up for the nice cheap price of $25. Speaking of that I need to call Amy get my copy from her back. She was going to be the first female cohost I sent her the articles for the topics and they were each about 1 page long. She has had many weeks to ready 6 pages and everytime I see she says she is "Working On It" So the female cohost again is on hold. I could swear there is something in the water up here or maybe just the west coast that makes woman flaky. Oh well another podcast topic for another time.

Also if Jennifer from Bothell comes across this site all I have to say is What the hell was that all about?

I thought I would finish one thought I left out a while ago. When I was on vacation with Darin in town I knew we were planning on going out to Ellensburg to see Jolene. So I taled to Sarah said hey were coming out been over a year since we have hung out lets do that. So we get there and I call her she had already known I was going to be in town. I get a text message at 11:45 or 1am or something that read like this "Sorry wasn't around my phone all day. GOing to bed. Goodnight" I saw this and passed my phone around the room. Jolene, Jason, Darin, Jered, That Nerd Dude, Some Other Chick. All came to the conclusion that was a bitchy thing to do and was not cool.

Now instead of playing it off as like whatever and being the "nice guy" I just wanted to say being that it was known I was in the area. Then you saying you wanted to hang out. But you not being around your phone all day. I say that is a lie and you were trying to find a "Nice Way" to back out. Which I believe is rather fucked up. I sat around and puzzled for the reason. But then got to thinking I will never know which tends to bother me. I would rather be told "Tristan I hate your fucking guts because you did " or "Yeah you do and that really bugs me" SO I can take that experience learn from it and move on from my life.

But I digress. (That has been a frequent saying. It's even rubbed off on a few people. Funny thing is I got it from someone else)

People seem to like when I get mad because it's not a very common thing. I have been working on a honest piece of writing that is pretty much my life wrapped up into every little detail that I can recall.

The first few drafts of the intro I have sent out have recieved response like the following.

"Dude you are so passionate! I want more! You never show this side of yourself"
or
"Tristan you really come out of your shell on this one. Finish it soon"

Now I started this when I was really upset about a situation at work and I opened up iWork and started writing. Which took me down the road of other tangents and that 35 mins ferry ride I had written 9 pages. I really had only hit on two topics with that writing. Work and the corporate life of the world. And my first relationship with a Woman. Hopefully it gets finished. I have a backup and will being work when the laptop is repaired.

I also got to thinking. I should have walked her up to her door. Fuck I am an idiot.

Anyways. Rock on.

Slight Problem

Well with this new e-mail tax that has come about from this group that basically has a say in Yahoo, AOL, Google, Hotmail have this new way to get rid of Spam. This is how it works. You basically have to be on a whitelist to be able to send e-mail to anyone with an account on these services. To be on the whitelist you have to fork out a decent amount of cash. That ranges from $500-$80,000. Now most people I know do not have the luxury of a personal webserver with their own e-mail they rely on the above services.

So this has caused a problem with new user registrations not getting back to the users for the new website. So this is what I will be doing to make my life a little easier. The users that have registered so far probably have not recieved an e-mail with their password yet.

If this is your case please send me an e-mail tristan@tristanpipo.com or tristan.pipo@gmail.com with your username and I will reset your password. Or you can make a comment on this blog post and I will reset your password. Then I will send you an e-mail if available. So you can setup your account.

Sorry about the trouble. I am looking into a fix for this.

Post #629 - You Know It's Been A While

Well you know when it's been a while when you have to login to Blogger again. It's almost like gMail that way.

Vacation is over back to work. I must be honest I am not really happy about it. As I have come to realize I need to change my life. So with a new life comes a new website and blog. Which is currently being tested and accepting new user registration over at TristanPipo.com/Test so with a new site comes a few new rules.

1. You must register to comment.
2. You must have a valid e-mail address to register.
3. You are not allowed to comment until you have had 1 approved comment then you are not stuck waiting in moderation.

These rules are a necessary evil to keep certain evil people away. *cough* Dave *cough* And the rules apply. I will not be giving away your e-mail address or any personal info it only collects your e-mail address and most people would not care to have my mailing list to begin with.

So what am I going to do with my current blog? Well it will be imported into the new one and so will all the comments and every post I have ever made. So if you would like to hold onto this page well I will make the entire blog as of the last post on here available as a ZIP File download at your leisure when I move over to the new site.

Why the Move? Well mainly ease of use because it has a lot of features that I want and lets me take control of certain features of the blog that I haven't had access to before. It will also have lots of cool features like audio players in the blog to play the podcasts and built in podcast functions. So when those get implemented I will be sure to let you know.

Hey Tristan How was your Vacation? Well I will go into that detail later a lot to talk about in that matter.

Well does this mean your laptop is in working order? Well no using my desktop and Windows *ugh* to write this blog. The new hard drive will be ordered this week. Going from an 80GB 5400 RPM HDD to a 100GB 7200RPM Hard Drive. But I have really been enjoying my computer liberated life. But want to get back to podcasting and as my brief experience in Windows again it's not my ideal platform for audio editing.

So I will get to writing the vacation summary. Until then check out what the new site will look like at http://tristanpipo.com/test/ when the move is finished the new link for the blog and everything will just be TristanPipo.com So thoughts and input are appreciated.

So that's a little update on my end. The female cohost for show #8 has been a flake so that idea right now is hacked. Falls under the typical woman of the area can't commit to a decesion and is a flake. Then she wants me to fix her laptop. I no think so.

On a side note I found that the local symphony is doing PDQ Bach his stuff is awesome going to check that out. Probably by myself might ask that girl at the gym but we shall see if she is doing some workout on Thursday on my next visit to the gym.

P.S. A little visit to Ellensburg brought.... Ahh not worth finishing that sentence.

TristanPipo.com - Show #7.5 - The Interlude

TristanPipo.com - Show #7.5 - The Interlude

This is just a short little clip around 5 mins of my current thoughts on the laptop death and experience since it happened. I did miss the idea of not recording anything. So I used PC and Sound Forge and just recorded some thoughts I had been having. iTunes should be updating shortly for everyone.

Happy Days

Fixing Update

Well to get the files off my Hard Drive I have the Contacts and the Music Solution solved. The iPod has all my music and all my contacts. I just would like to have all my e-mails cause I am anal like that. Also some unreleased podcasts and iLife 06 are now lost that I have to recreate and redownload.

I found a guide to replace the HDD which appears that Apple doesn't really want you in the laptop so I have to run out to SEARS and get some TORK screwdrivers. It's like an octagon screw head. Very Bizarre. I think I am going to go with a larger HDD replace the 80GB with either 100GB or 120GB just to fill my need to save everything.

I was thinking these next few posts are going to be rather geeky normally a topic I try to avoid because most people are "huh" or just nod their head. But it's my blog so you can go Fuck yourself if it's not your cup of tea.

I got some Unbuntu CD's in the mail. 1 Set for PC's another for 64-Bit PC's and another for Mac's. I thought I would use the LIVE CD which is a CD that will load the OS on your computer but not touch the Hard Drive. I figured I could do this perhaps and then mount the HDD and use Linux to transfer the information from the old Hard Drive to a backup Network Share on another machine. So I would be using Linux on my Mac to transfer over the Network to my Windows machine.

I tried the LIVE CD on my Windows Box and it doesn't mount the Hard Drive when you use the LIVE CD so I have to go digging through my Linux books. Good experience I guess for the RHCE to remember the command to mount the HDD since it is escaping me right now.

I thought I could backup my iPod to the Windows Box but it is formatted for MAC and have not had much luck on Google trying to figure out how to Mount a Mac Formatted iPod as a Removable Disk on Windows.

So now it's just reading reviews and trying to pickout a HDD since I decided the $450 is not worth the Backup from MacService.com and I could get a larger HDD for $135.

On a Side Note. Darin arrives on Friday and we will be all around WA making the rounds to see people. Also on March 13th My Cell Phone will be dead as we make the transfer from Sprint PCS to T-Mobile with the Number. Currently I have two cell phones right now. Since the largest complaint since I got the 8100 replaced with an 8100 from Insurance is "Dude we can't hear you!" So I am in my car or in public shouting into my phone "What Time DO YOU WANT TO WORK OUT TONIGHT!" or "IT'S THE 9:30 SHOWING OF 16 BLOCKS!" which I am just getting tired of doing.

Anyways if you would like to show your love for a new HDD for my Laptop I believe there is a Make a Donation Button near the top. Might be nice to get a mixer and some new Mic's get some good Recordings Going. So until I get my problem resolved Podcasts are on Hold. Which sucks because show #8 with my new Co-Host was supposed to record this week. At least it's Tax Return Time.

My Uncle sent me a clever little note that I should mention.
"Sorry to hear about your Mac taking a dump. Just thinking though... I always
thought it was a great machine... It was you bashing IBM at the diner table as I
recall... But just incase you don't get your address book back I thought I would
drop you a line to get mine back. I don't worry too much about what people think of
me using the big gates god products..... As far as I know... No one has ever accused
me of being smart.

Good luck with the hard drive Tristan. I bet you could fix it if you roll up your
sleeves and jump on in.

Steve"

I have no problem against people that use the Mighty Gates Products. I just ask that they experience all that OS X has to offer before they commit to something they are used to. As they saying goes "Think Different"

A Picture Share!

A Post Out of Anger

Now it takes a lot to get me going. But when I hear a "grrrr" sound form my laptop my heart tends to stop beating. Then I can't decide if I want to cry or punch someone in the face or whatever. So I did what every tech guy does try's to recall from memory how to boot your Mac into the Emergency Diagnostic Mode. Which led me to the Manual that came with my laptop which in turn had me put in my restore CD and hold down the option key.

I decided Dinner was a better option while it ran this test but nobody had any sympathy to offer me. "Your the computer whiz you can fix it" I deal with other people's computer problems daily. Most of the time they are simple fixes and I would love to present them with a RTFM sticker or a "You are an Idiot" sticker. Upon coming back to the test I find this wonderful little thing in the bottom right hand corner.

ERROR CODE**ERROR CODE***
2STF/8/3:ATA-100 ata-6-Master
ERROR CODE**ERROR CODE***

Upon research I have found this little page How To Solve The Problem

Which basically says a format and a clean install. Well truth be told I haven't been up on my backups. I have most of the Podcasts backed up and my purchased music all but a few mostly the free songs that are garbage anyways. But all my text documents, e-mails, address book contacts are lost.

I did find this company
MacService
Currently my laptop has an 80GB 5400 RPM drive now to replace with that model is $245 I can get a 100GB for $295 now I have to decide if it is worth it to rebuild the address book from scratch. Most of my school work is backed up onto Pen Drives and onto gMail. Buddy Lists are hosted elsewhere the website is still up. The only major loss is time of having to redownload everything.

Now I am a bit content right now the question is do I attempt a HDD replacement myself and have to start installing everything the old way. I have done 4 laptop hard drive replacements in my lifetime. All on Windows Machines from my work at Best Buy. Some scary as hell. The scarriest was this fairly new SONY Laptop where I had to take the screen apart to get access to screws that held the keyboard in that was attached by a tiny tiny wire that I broke on accident that I had to resolder and pray to whatever higher being out there that it would work. I had an HP that just was involed 4 screws and a pat on the back. I have yet to Google how to take apart my powerbook. I think it will involve a trip to the speciality store get a special screwdriver.

I am sending off a Quote Request to those folks at Mac Service because they will just put the old HDD info on the new one. All I really want back is the Music, Address Book, E-Mails and iCal which I have been migrating (slowly) to 30Boxes.com but I feel like I lost a friend.

People bash me for being a Mac user. But I just point out their ignorance for being a Windows XP user and not having to deal with such software issues of Virus's.

But WAIT! My address Book is on my iPOD! =) The miracle of thought. Recent as of 3/4/05. One less hassel to deal with later. Though me being scared shitless will still take it's toll on the dry cleaner.

Now I am off to cry as I send off a request for a quote and look at my options and cry that I have to pay for service. Something that people normally pay me for because I really don't want to take the risk but still would be good to learn.

Fucking Karma I shouldn't have been negative yesterday. Which I wanted to do a podcast about which now I can't so now I am bitching. FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK.

Where is that post about getting laid to reduce stress?

iTunes Problem

iTunes Bug

I have been going crazy. I updated all my podcasts because of this problem yesterday. Which involved a resubscribe and redownload. It took a great deal of time to download every episode of MacTV for the Video iPod. I lost all the episodes of Rocketboom just not cool. My visit to the apple support forums wasn't as productive as I had hoped. I keep getting the connection refused error.

It is even refusing my link which tells me something is wrong in iTunes because the feed works just fine in Fireant and at BlogLines. Any way to fix this without having to resubscribe to every single Podcast and redownload them all?
